Surfing!

We are living with a family in a small village just north of ********.  Their friendliness and generosity almost prompts suspicion from us, why are they so warm and inviting?  But it just seems the way down here.  We've eaten a few meals with them, and their extended family which is an interesting mix of charades and broken spanglish.  We got to try Roberto's hermano's shisha, which is a partially fermented grapejuice from his home grown vines.  Sweet, refreshing, and bright pink in color, while slightly intoxicating.  And Carlina is an excellent cook, we chop the wood for her stove and she cooks us fish (fresh caught by Genji who is extending his title as "el maestro" further south), and also fresh tomato salad, rice, bread, and tea.  All of the food is homemade, being grown, raised, and processed on site.  Genji had chicken footprints and pig footprints on his board this morning when we woke up.

The wave out front of the house is a nice left, breaking off some rocks onto a long sandy beach.  Some waves line up over 100 yards.  There are 5 or 6 other points around here we have been checking and waiting for.  Right now I am watching a wind protected left that is improving with the dropping tide, eating a crab empenada.  We met some aussies, an ex-NASA PR guru/WQS grinder/hitchhiker from Florida, and a guy from Bodega bay, they are a good group to show us around and teach us the ins and outs of the different points.  Their travel agendas make us feel pathetic, most of them have been on the road for years.  We had a 4x4 adventure yesterday and saw a bunch of perfect looking setups.

In 2 days we will return to Santiago to drop off Juane, get a rental car, and head back south.  There is so much peace and beauty down here, plus tons of good waves that are surfable every day.  There are talks of extending our stay here and axing Costa Rica from the agenda.  Hard to leave waves like we are getting and the people we are meeting...
